Hello,
I was stationed on the Uss Constellation in the late 70's and we were deployed to the far east. (I was in SAM Div., we handled the Terrier missile launchers at the stern of the ship)
One morning on our transit home, in about the middle of the pacific ocean, we opened up the missile house to go outside and wash down the launcher. It was shortly after sunrise and we were in a very dense fog.
As we stood there the ship came out of the fog into clear skies and sunny, and behind us was a wall of fog. The ocean was as flat as a lake with this huge wall of fog that went as far as you could see left and right. Again, the water was flat and glossy and this condition allowed a perfect reflection of the fog.
weather at sea is awesome.
