Angles and Dangles

In the Silent Service, an important task occurs when a submarine gets underway and reaches deep water. The sub will dive deep at a steep angle, then immediately ascend at a steep angle, leveling off prior to broaching the surface. The purpose of this event is to shake loose any improperly stowed gear (“Dangles”) that could fall and make noise if/when the submarine had to make similar maneuvers in a combat situation. All unsecured gear is then properly stowed prior to the sub being rigged for silent running.

Angles and Dangles is probably NOT a time for a cup of coffee.

But after a successful rig for silent running – that’s the perfect time for the perfect cup of coffee.

Hoist your mug to the Silent Service.
