Well known amongst sailor legends is crossing the line. However, before these sailors go on deployments, sea trials, shake downs, and the first time at sea, one’s Division shipmates welcome them into the fold by delivering seaways. Often delivered by dustpan, and after it is over you are given your nickname. Mine was Scrap, because of my reported similarity to Scrappy Doo.
