Halfway Night
In the submarine force, Sailors on strategic deterrent patrols aboard SSBNs (ballistic missile submarines) always look forward to Halfway Night, which marks the midpoint of their patrol.
The evening consists of fun and entertainment for the crew, to include irreverent skits, “talent” contests and other revelry.
Another reason Sailors look for to Halfway Night is because it includes what is arguably the best meal of the patrol, usually steak and lobster, with the cooks baking fresh cakes and pies, and serving homemade ice cream for dessert. The perfect meal for the perfect cup of coffee.
